Mitchell, SD

We stayed overnight on Monday at a park that was similar to the park we stayed in in Howe. Only this one was not as well maintained. The price was right though ($10), and we only stayed one night. This park is not recommended. It is Little Sioux, Ia.

Tuesday was another travel day on our way to the Badlands. We stopped in Mitchell, SD to see the Corn Palace. We also needed to stock-up on groceries as we have read there is not much in Interior.
The Corn Palace was interesting, something to put Mitchell on the map.
It was originally built in the 1800's and it is now downtown and serves multiple functions. It is a basketball arena which is used for many other things. The basketball court was being used as a market for different vendors when we were there.
The facade of the building is different colored corn on the cob and different grasses that are grown in this area. Here corn is king. There have been 5 designers since the Corn Palace was first built and decorated. The corn has to be changed at least once a year and in different designs.

After wards, we went to eat at Culver's. Brenda and I were very hungry so we ate lupper.
It was good as usual, and as this was a travel day we decided to eat out. We don't eat out much as it is so expensive.
Next we went to Cabela's. I have never been in one as we have not seen but one before. It is a huge store with wild animal displays, an aquarium with different types of game fish, and every kind of hunting, fishing and outdoor activity equipment you could think of.
Brenda and I didn't buy anything, but Ted and Donna found some shirts that were a good price and bought them.
Then we went to Walmart and stimulated the economy of Mitchell, but we are now prepared for a week in the Badlands.

Ta ta for now
