No major Problems.

We took the trailer out for it's initial cruise. All went well with no problems except for a sliding window, that is double pane, that has lost it's seal. It should be easily fixed.
We went down to a local COE campground on one of the flood control lakes that were built in the 40's & 50's in Mississippi, Lake Arkabutla. It is one of the smaller lakes, but the campground is well maintained  and we had a beautiful spot.
We were with some friends, Bill & Jackie, from the breakfast club from church. They were the only ones from our RV friends who could join us. We had a great time and beautiful but hot weather.

We had a major cold front move through here this morning. It dumped over 5 inches of rain in a few hours. We have had flash flooding and our neighbor across the road has water in his house.
We had a similar situation to this about 3 or 4 years ago. Mike had about 9 inches of water in his house then, but luckily only in the garage this time.
We are high & dry, but it looks like a river through our front yard.  It has stopped raining and the water is receding pretty fast now.

The bridge that Mike and I built this spring is doing just fine. The creek is out of it's banks but it is also going down nicely.
3 of the 4 pastures are under water, but that water is receding, too.

Sally, our cat has adjusted very well. She has become extremely friendly with me of late. She climbs up into my lap while i am sitting in my chair.
She was just up on my desk and climbed into my letter tray, but she left before I could get my camera.

Brenda has increased her volunteer time and is now involved in multiple activities. She does the soup kitchen, she now belongs to the Resurrection choir, which sing at funerals. And now is involved with the catholic food bank. She id very busy.
And she still helps me with the barn when she can. What a woman!!!!!

Been a long time

I should probably change the name of our blog as we have settled down here in the Memphis, TN area and not wandering too much at this time.

Brenda was born and raised here and I was raised here after my father, who was in the Navy, was transferred to NAS Memphis in 1953.  Also all of Brenda's siblings live here in the area, along with most of her cousins and their families.
The economy and the price of fuel, have driven us from the road, if only temporarily.
Also, my brother was in need of help with his and his wife's new adventure, Dove Creek Farm & Stable, so we took the opportunity to settle down for a while. They have 4 horses and we have the ability to board 5 more. We have 9 stalls in the barn and about 7 acres under fenced pasture.
We have more construction to do in and around the barn and that will come with time.

We are settled in our new home here on the property, and it is part of my job to keep watch over the property. The house is very comfortable and serves our needs very well. Mike and I built it with the help of some subcontractors.

As many of you know, we lost Cleo in January of this year. We had decided that we would not get another pet as we were both getting older and pets could outlive us. BUT, an opportunity came along for us to get another cat. She is about 10 or 11 years old and she belonged to my sister-in-law.
Her name is Sally and she has moved right in and taken over our hearts. She could still outlive us, but the chances are much slimmer now.

In June, we traveled up to the Seattle area and spent a week with our oldest daughter, Becky,  and her family.
Lindsay has moved from elementary school to middle school and we wanted to be there for the ceremony. I am not a believer in grammar school "graduation", but this was not graduation and it was well done.
She will be changing schools this fall and now will have to ride a bus. She has been able to walk to school for the last 6 years. The new school is several miles away.
Also, our youngest daughter, Heather, came up from Portland with her brother and her boyfriend Erin (sp). We had heard much about him and it was very nice to meet him.
It was also very nice to spend some time with Alex.

Gracie, our youngest grand daughter, is completely different from her sister. Lindsay is quiet and reserved and Gracie is in your face and going all of the time she is awake.
They are both very special in their own ways. The amazing thing is that they are extreme opposites of each other. Gracie is a handful all of the time.

After much thought and deliberation, we decided to trade our motor home in on a 5th wheel trailer. It is a 2013 brand new Jayco Pinnacle. It is more spacious inside than the Holiday Rambler was and seems more homey.
We are taking it out for a shake-down the second weekend of September. We are not taking it far and we will have some friends along in their motor home for company.
There are several RVer's in our 'breakfast club' but some still work and have difficult time getting away so that we can all be together in our RV's. We were hoping that we could all be together, but that didn't work out.

Brenda has decided to quit work and has turned in her notice. This will give her more time for her volunteering and will enable us to go out in our RV whenever we wish.
Brenda is a member of a charity organization at church and she enjoys going to the soup kitchen  on Tuesdays. She has not been able to do that for sometime and I am sure she is looking forward to it.

I will try to be more diligent with my writing in the future.

Ta ta for now.

We will miss you CLEO

We met Cleo in March of 1999. We adopted her because we felt our cat, Sasha, needed a companion. Little did we know she would steal our heart away.
Cleo was brought in with her brothers and sisters to be adopted. I saw her reaching out to anyone she could touch. She had a cute mustache look to her. When I got her in my arms, she hooked me. She was to be a companion for Sasha but turned out to be a companion for us instead.
She was a sweet cat. She did not like children. i think she had too many children around her when she was born. Even though she did not like kids she had some cute antics to her. She did not like closed doors. If we closed a door, she would come scratch and cry till you opened it for her,not that she wanted in, she just wanted her freedom.
Have you ever gone to the bathroom in the middle of the night and something bumps into your leg? That was Cleo. If you close the door before she gets in, she would poke her paws under the door to see if she could touch you. I would play with her by putting my toes near the door so she could feel them. If I moved my foot back, she stuck her paw in.
She loved her treats. She would get treats at noon and 5 every day. She could tell time too. When it got close to noon she would meow till she got her treats. Same thing happened at 5. I think she swallowed a watch.
Rick was her go to guy. If she got low on food during the night she would start walking on Rick. She never walked on me for food. I guess she knew rick would take care of her.
She loved to lay on or near us. In the evening I would sit on the couch and read. She would jump on the couch and let me know that she wanted attention. I would scratch her under her chin and she would settle into my lap until she got too hot. Oh, how I will miss her.
Rick used to pick her up and turn her tummy up to give her kissykissy on her head. She tolerated him handling her that way.
I was the groomer for her. I combed her almost every day. She let me comb her for about 5 minutes. When she had enough of the comb she got up and moved away from me. That was her signal that she had enough of combing.
We will miss her playing in a paper sack or being curious about what we were doing. She was a joy to watch when she was in a playful mood. she liked to toss up my socks and watch it land. There were many a day that she got our socks and played with them.
Life will be tough without our dear cleo, but we know she is in a better place now. Thanks to everyone that expressed sorrow for us.

Cleo, we love you and will have many fond memories of you.

Update on Cottage

It has been over  month since we moved out of the motor home and into the cottage.
We moved before we moved the motor home over here, so there was some maneuvering to get the stuff we needed here and out of our previous home.

We got the parking lot in between the barn and cottage and we then moved the MH over here and got it ready for the winter. It now sits on the east side of the cottage and is plugged to keep the batteries charged.

We got the couch from Mike and Barb's house and it fits nicely. We need a couple more tables for the living room.

We have gotten some new wall hangings and Mike had some that he wasn't using. He had some of Mom & Dad's artwork. Years ago they went through an artist phase in their lives and this is some of their work.

The weather has turned of cold throughout the country and the low temperature here was 10 degrees and we had a high today of 15. We have wintered in the south for the last 30+ years and we are chilled to the bone today. The cottage is warm but it is sooo cold out doors. The heater does cycle on and off so the house is well insulated.
We were supposed to get several inches of snow yesterday, but that didn't materialize. We are thankful, even though we did not venture of of the property today.

On a sad note, we are probably going to lose Cleo in a few days. She has not eaten anything since last Thursday. We took her to the vet on Thursday and he removed almost 11 oz of fluid off of her abdomen. She has been diagnosed with probable heart disease which is filling her abdomen with fluid. She was prescribed with a diuretic and a beta blocker, but neither one seems to be doing any thing. She doesn't seem to be suffering as she sleeps most of the time. She is drinking water and urinating but no poo for several days. We thought she might eat something after the fluid was removed but she won't even take her treats from our hand now.

We have taken in a rescue horse that we are fostering. She is a 4-5 year old Tennessee Walker. She was skin and bone when we got her about 3 weeks ago. She has gained about 150# since we got her and she is a sweetheart.
We don't think that she has had any training as she has no manners and doesn't lead well.
I turn the horses out every morning, and I put a halter on her to lead her out. If I don't move fast enough to suit her, after I open the door to her stall, she pushes me from behind. She is quite gentle, but can get quite impatient.
The vet was here today to check on her and vaccinate her. She was quite pleased with her progress.
We will keep her probably until March when adoption will be attempted.
Mike and Barb are Paso Fino people and a Tennessee Walkeris not in their plans.
